JoAnn has been involved with wildlife work since the early 1980's. She started a side business called "Into the Wild" in 2010, where she provided humane wildlife resources to Chittenden County. JoAnn received a call from a community member new to the Burlington area looking for wildlife support. Patty had only lived in Vermont for a short time when she spotted an uninvited guest in her backyard: a baby skunk. Unfortunately, the little one had passed away and then tested positive for rabies, a scary and potentially dangerous situation for Patty and her family.
JoAnn met with Patty, and in addition to providing education on skunks and how rabies is spread, JoAnn also set up a wildlife camera to monitor further activity. Patty was so impressed with JoAnn’s calm and professional demeanor, which immediately put her at ease, that she thought everyone should know about JoAnn's services!
After working together, they officially rebranded HEART Wildlife Removal in 2015 to help more people find humane solutions to common wildlife conflicts. Since the launch of HEART Wildlife Removal, there have been many exciting new additions and innovative processes added to the services that are available for the community.
A licensed wildlife rehabilitator with nearly 40 years of experience with animals, JoAnn has spent her life helping manage issues that arise between animals and humans. She has worked at oil spills, helping wash affected wildlife, and been a cruelty investigator for the Humane Society for 20 years. She serves as an Animal Control Officer

Before joining the HEART wildlife team, Bethany gained most of her professional experience in wildlife research and teaching assistantships with UVM. These opportunities led her to positions coordinating volunteers for both the Friends of the Winooski River and the Humane Society of Chittenden County. While she certainly loves cats and dogs too, she is excited to get back into her passion which is working to help our native wildlife species. Bethany and her partner, Patrick, also have two lovely rabbits at home named Baxter and Bloom.

She was a veterinary technician at the Humane Society of Chittenden County, working with animals (the domestic variety!) awaiting their next homes at the shelter and helping community members' pets with their veterinary & medical needs. She lives in Hinesburg with her husband, daughter, dog, and two rescue cats, where they can enjoy all the nature and wildlife that Vermont has to offer.
